OTAN y Seguridad Marítima Internacional: enfoque integral británico en Wilton Park

Wilton Park (WP) es una institución británica para el debate político y académico muy, pero que muy, oficial.

Esta semana celebrara esta conferencia: Restoring confidence in global financial markets. (Friday 21 - Saturday 22 November 2008), muy oportuna.

Me honraron al haberme dejado participar en alguna de sus sesiones.

NATO at 60: towards a new strategic concept

The recently appointed Defence Secretary, John Hutton (featured) will open Wilton Park's high-level conference, 'NATO at 60: towards a new strategic concept', marking NATO's 60th anniversary. Other speakers include Paddy Ashdown, Kurt Volker, and Lawrence Freedman. The aims of the conference are to explore what a new strategic concept for NATO might look like.

Maritime security: strengthening international and inter-agency co-operation

With the world relying on the free use of the sea for security and prosperity, delivering effective maritime security is an issue of growing political significance, as seen in responses to the exploding threat from piracy off the coast of Somalia. This meeting will identify practical, realistic and affordable measures for improving inter-agency and international co-operation that can lead to more effective capability for maritime surveillance and maritime security operations, including through local capacity building in developing countries. The conference is bringing together perspectives from a wide cross section of maritime stakeholders, including a range of government departments, naval, coast guard and customs staff, representatives of international and regional maritime organisations, the shipping industry, and maritime technology sectors.
