El gran Arkin, en el mismo periódico, más allá de los MRAP's, escribió ayer 14 de mayo una gran pieza: Gates the Substitute Teacher, o sea "el profesor suplente". Algo más que una crítica a un ministro, toda una notificación sobre la desmoronamiento que sufre el "centro de gravedad" del sistema de seguridad de los EE.UU.. Así, transcribo y subrayo en negrita:
"The secretary of Defense, in other words, can make speech after speech urging focus and good behavior -- but he can't see the big picture. And neither can the current occupants of the White House.
Iraq cannot be "won," the terrorist threat is oversold, and there are bigger threats to America. We have military and national security systems that are broken. We have ways to speak for Americans but no one listens or believes. We falsely revere the brass when it is part of the problem. We have a volunteer military that substitutes for us in making sacrifices we are not willing to make ourselves".
