Seguro que sobre la actividad contra piratas de la Armada española desde la fundación de Manila por Legazpi hasta 1898 entre el Estrecho de Malaca, el Golfo de Tonkín, Cuenca del Mekong, Formosa (Taiwan) y, especialmente, en la de Mindanao de las Islas Filipinas y en las Célebes no se le ocurre a ningún periodista ir a preguntar al Museo Naval, en especial Sala 18. Filipinas (siglo XIX), sito al lado de La Cibeles... Los piratas operan siempre donde siempre...

Fijo que ni se han leído Los tigres de Mompracem, de Emilio Salgari. En su capítulo 26:

Sandokán, Mariana y Yáñez se precipitaron hacia el borde de la gigantesca roca.

—¡Es una verdadera flota! —murmuró Yáñez—. ¿Dónde han reunido tantas fuerzas esos canallas ingleses?

—¡Mira —indicó Sandokán—, hay barcos ingleses, holandeses, españoles, hasta paraos de ese miserable sultán de Varauni!

La escuadra agresora se componía de tres cruceros ingleses, dos corbetas holandesas, cuatro cañoneras españolas y ocho paraos del sultán. Disponían entre todos de unos mil quinientos hombres.
